About

I’m Jade Shepherd – a historian with a particular interest in the histories of asylums, crime, insanity, and masculinity. I have a PhD in history (2013): ‘Victorian Madmen: Broadmoor, Masculinity and the Experiences of the Criminally Insane, 1863-1900’. I’m a Lecturer in Modern History at the University of Lincoln, and I’m working on my first book: Broadmoor’s Men: Masculinity, Class and the Victorian Criminal Lunatic Asylum, 1864-1900.
